Christmas Signs: Rejoice and Junk to Joy!

Happy Wednesday Friends!  Wow, can it really be just a few days away from Christmas--are you ready?  Today I'm sharing the last Christmas projects of the year; both signs. The first is repurposed from a .25 bag of junky metal and the second, my latest upcycle.

My favorite local thrift store hosts a weekly warehouse sale of their surplus items and most everything except furniture is .25.  Sometimes you have to really hunt, but over the last few years, I've found all kinds of treasures.  A few weeks ago, they had their final sale before Christmas and I picked up a bag of metal bits and pieces.  Not much to look at, but I had an idea...

...so I added a very watered down coat of paint--just enough to stain the pieces.

Then I arranged my junky letters and nailed them to a piece of fencing that I'd kept from a repair. It makes a funky addition to my garden and the patina will only get better as it continues to weather!

The next project began with this metal sign I found several years ago on clearance at Homegoods.  It was in my laundry room until I gave the space a much needed makeover.

Now the sign was ready for an upcycle.  I started by giving it a coat of Deco Art Americana Chalky Finish Paint in Lace.

Next, I mod podged vintage sheet music to some of the metal sections.  I love sheet music and pick it up anytime I see it at thrift stores. The lacy stickers are from the dollar store.

Last, I added more dollar store stickers--letters. I needed a five letter word and chose Rejoice because like Joy,  it is a good reminder year round!

  4. You are just so clever Cecilia. Love the Rejoice sign. I likely have those metal bits and pieces in my shop, but would never have seen the word JOY in them. Good job.
    Happy Christmas.
